(Zurcher, c.1890s-2020) An original brick from the historic Zurcher building from Walt's boyhood hometown of Marceline, Missouri. It is well known that Walt took inspiration for Disneyland's Main Street U.S.A. from his youthful home of Marceline. When the Disney family moved to Marceline in 1906, Walt likely witnessed the giant Coca-Cola advertisement being painted adjacent to the Zurcher building. Due to the high visibility of the Coca-Cola sign from E.P Ripley Park, it is no surprise Walt would use the Zurcher building as inspiration behind Disneyland's Coca-Cola Refreshment Corner. Numerous similarities exist between the corner entrances and architecture of both buildings. This brick, a remnant from the original days of Walt living in Marceline, represents some of the earliest inspiration behind what would become Disneyland. The brick comes from Downtown Marceline, a charitable organization currently working to preserve the historic Zurcher building. This is the first brick released as an artifact to raise awareness to the significant restoration project. Measuring 2.5"x8.5" and 3.75" deep, the brick is in good used condition with expected wear from age.
