(Disney, 1949-53) A large section of track from Walt Disney's personal backyard railroad, the Carolwood Pacific Railroad. Walt's fascination with trains began very early in his life. His father helped install track for the Union Pacific Railroad, his father's cousin drove trains on the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway, and Walt himself worked for the Missouri Pacific Railway in his teenage years where he would sell newspapers, candy, and other products aboard the trains. In 1949, Walt purchased his home at 355 Carolwood Drive, with the intent to build a large backyard railroad on the property. The track was built at the Walt Disney Studios machine shop by Imagineer Roger Broggie and his staff, and the Carolwood Pacific Railroad had its first test run on December 24, 1959. While Walt was developing his ideas for what would become Disneyland, it was his backyard railroad that gave him the idea to surround his future park with what would be known as the Disneyland Railroad. This genuine section of track was actually used and installed as part of Walt's Carolwood Pacific Railroad, and originally belonged to Roger Broggie. The track was given by Broggie to Leon and Jack Janzen, editors of the popular "E" Ticket Magazine, following an interview with Broggie or the fall 1990 issue that featured the Carolwood Pacific Railroad. The track includes a signed letter of provenance from Leon's wife Linda Janzen. The track comes from the collection of renowned Disney historian and collector Phil Sears. Measuring 16"x12.5", the track is in very good condition with expected surface wear to the metal and wood from use and age.
