(WDI, 1970s) A set of three animal concept models from the never-realized Western River Expedition attraction at Walt Disney World. Originally, this attraction was planned instead of another Pirates of the Caribbean, under the misguided assumption that Florida was too close to the actual Caribbean for Pirates to be of interest to the Walt Disney World audience. Pirates of the Caribbean was already a world-famous Disney attraction, however, and so it came to Walt Disney World. While elements of the River Expedition were repurposed for other attractions, these extremely rare hand-sculpted clay over cast components concept models are the best representation of Marc Davis’s original vision for the attraction to survive. Ranging in size from 7.25" to 8.75” tall, the figures are in generally very good condition. The donkey is missing an ear and the bridles on both the donkey and horse have come loose. The horse has a cracked foreleg. All exhibit some wear and handling.
