(Disney, 1941) An incredible set of letters and telegrams related to the historic Walt Disney Studios animator's strike of 1941. Many Walt Disney Studios employees became discontented with their pay and working conditions. When Disney fired several of his employees who were members of the Screen Cartoonist's Guild (SCG), over 200 employees of the Walt Disney Studios went on strike on May 29, 1941. The strike notably interrupted production and resulted in a "temporary shutdown" of the Studios which lasted until September of 1941. This pair of letters are addressed to Ken O'Brien, and relay information about layoffs and the suspension of operations. These telegrams were transmitted during the close of the strike (between August 7 and 27, 1941), informing Ken to "return to work," and mentioning the Studios' reopening date of September 15, 1941. Measuring 8"x5.75" and 8.5"x11", these papers are in good condition with creases, folds, tears and wear throughout each piece.
