(Weber, c.1938) An exceptionally rare original animator's desk from the Walt Disney Studios in Burbank. Walt Disney enlisted renowned German designer Kem Weber to design virtually every aspect of his new studio, including what has become one of its most well-known features: the original desks used by the studio's animators. A true triumph of Weber, these desks perfectly blended style and function, and many featured customizations to fit the specific need of each animator or artist. The top half of the desk containing the shelves, light disk, and drawing table, rests in place over the bottom half containing the drawers. The top section retains its original studio label signifying this desk as a "Modified Animator Desk" with a studio location number of "1B 09-11." The bottom section still retains its Walt Disney Productions studio identification label number "10797." Remarkably, the desk still lights up, and includes the often-missing rotating glass disk in the center. Measuring an impressive 58.75" tall, 58" wide, and approximately 30.25" deep, not including the drawing board which can be adjusted for its angle, this animator's desk is a museum-quality artifact of Walt Disney Studios history. It is in good used condition with general surface wear and small nicks throughout. There are a few small cracks at the paneling on the right side.
