(Rancheros Visitadores, c.1940) An original hand-painted and autographed sign from Walt Disney's campsite as part of the Rancheros Visitadores social club. In June of 1940, Walt Disney took a break from the business of running the Walt Disney Studio and took park in the club's annual 60-mile journey on horseback in the Santa Ynez Valley. In the evenings, the riders would break into their own separate campsites along the trail. Walt set up camp with his four of his close friends; Western artist Clyde Forsythe, Disney animator and director Dave Hand, Roger Summers, and Ted Sloccum. The group named their campsite "Camp Cine-Q" and created this sign to hang over it. After the ride, each of the 5 men autographed the sign, and it was retained by Ted Sloccum, whose family has kept it until now. Measuring 13.25"x21.5", The sign contains the five bold signatures of the group's members, including an extremely rare hand-drawn Mickey Mouse by Walt Disney next to his signature. Original drawings of Mickey Mouse by Walt Disney himself are among the most sought-after and scarcely seen artifacts in Disney collecting, and this excellent example is accomplished in dark pencil. This sign is adhered within a custom mat and comes with a pin featuring the "RV" logo of the Rancheros Visitadores; the same logo can be seen in the top-right corner of the sign. The condition is fair to good, with some moisture discoloration along the bottom-edge, and some wear from use.
