(Disney, 1950s) A miniature potbelly stove that was hand-crafted and hand-painted by Walt Disney himself. Walt had a passion for both miniatures and trains; a passion that would influence the design and functionality of his future theme park. While building the Carolwood Pacific, Walt's personal backyard miniature railroad, he crafted a miniature potbelly stove for the caboose as a training project to familiarize himself with his tooling equipment. He enjoyed the project so much that he would go on to create several more stoves, some which he would give as personal gifts, and some which he would sell in an antique gift shop in New York. Each of the stoves was personally created and hand-painted by Walt. This stove, bearing Walt's maker information on the base of "Walt Disney Miniature Stove Works - Burbank, Calif.," features a turn-of-the-century painted design of elegantly dressed men and woman, lampposts, and floral patterns. The stove consists of two pieces, which together measure approximately 2.75"x2.75" and 5.5" tall. The condition is good, with small spots of paint wear throughout. The two doors have been replaced with custom created versions designed to match the colors and designs of the stove. Artifacts that were created by Walt himself are exceptionally hard to come by and are highly sought-after. The only other surviving example of one of Walt's stoves that we have seen surface is in the private collection of The Walt Disney Family Museum.
