(Disneyland, 1963) Vintage fiberglass, wood, and metal base finial that sat atop the entranceway A-frame structure that housed the Dole Pineapple Whip vendor and Ticket Booth entrance to the pre-show area. Loated at the mouth of Adventureland this structure framed its’ famous gateway and can be seen in almost every image taken of the entrance over the years. The piece was designed by famed WED Imagineer Rolly Crump. Originally mounted in 1963, the piece stood over Adventureland for 37 years. In early 2000, the original A-frame structure, entirely made of wood and bamboo, began to collapse from age. The finial was removed and placed backstage for demolition. The piece was purchased from an Imagineer that rescued it from demolition. He later commissioned tiki carver, Leroy Schmaltz of Oceanic Arts to construct the wood base for the finial. The entire piece measures 47 x 23 x 23 in. In 2005, the finial was used as a study model for a limited edition series of figural Tiki room recreations. An amazing piece of Disneyland history.
