(Disney, 2004) The very first concept drawing for Davy Jones from “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest” by the film’s conceptual artist James Byrkit. Davy Jones went through many different designs before being brought to life in the ground-breaking CGI character animation that won the film an Academy Award for visual effects. The lobster-like claw for a hand was retained in the final design, making this a rare glimpse into the beginning stages of development for the series' pivotal antagonist. The drawing appears on page 81 of “The Art of Pirates of the Caribbean" from Disney Editions. Accomplished in graphite on paper and measuring 12” x 9”, the drawing is in fine condition.
