(Warner Bros., 1978) A vintage period suit worn by Steve McQueen as Dr. Thomas Stockmann in An Enemy of the People. Constructed of charcoal wool, the suit includes a jacket with notched lapels, hip flap pockets, broad welt breast pocket, interesting sleeve cuff hemline detail, and four-button front closure. The patterned black silk lining retains two interior chest pockets and is marked in the right sleeve with Western Costume notation and size 42R. The matching trousers have cuffed legs, side welt pockets, and button and hook and eye front closure. They retain an internal Western Costume bias label typed, "24101-1 Steve McQueen Waist 36." A passion project of McQueen's, An Enemy of the People is an adaptation of the classic play by Henrik Ibsen in which can be seen the roots of environmentalism. McQueen threw all of his star power behind the project, even touring with the film to lecture at universities. The suit remains in very good condition. The lining of the jacket exhibits some shattering, most pronounced at arm openings. The pants and jacket both exhibit a few internal tears and small threadbare areas.
