(Disneyland, 1965) An extremely rare original concept painting by legendary animator/Imagineer Marc Davis. This painting was done during the exploratory phase of the attraction. Davis was the lead story man and this painting was part of his work on the tableau scenes. More specifically, the “Bride Auction” scene. These two characters were situated across the channel and were part of the “prospective bidders” of the brides being offered by the auctioneer. Especially noteworthy is that Disney hand-picked this particular image to be used as promotional art for the attraction. It is featured in the preview and post-opening guidebooks for both Disneyland and Disney World. The artwork is also featured in the famous set of (12) postcards issued for sale in the newly-opened Pirate Arcade in 1966. This is one of a handful of Davis concepts that exist outside the Imaginering archives. Accomplished ink and watercolor. In fine condition.
