(Disney, 1929-30) An incredibly rare salesman's sample tablet for the first officially licensed Mickey Mouse product, the Mickey Mouse writing tablet. In late 1929, Walt was at a hotel in New York when a man offered to pay him $300 to use Mickey on a series of children's writing tablets. The deal made for those writing tablets was the first of many licensing deals that would help finance the future of the studio. This sample tablet would have been used to demonstrate the available cover options and features to encourage various businesses to purchase the tablets. This salesman's sample contains six different cover options as well as two sheets of lined paper. The back cover has a production stamp with hand-written coding which indicates a product number of 555, dimensions of 8"x10", and a count of 40 pieces. The original tablets are one of the most sought-after Disney collectibles, with this salesman's sample representing the only of its kind that we have ever seen offered for public sale. The condition of this tablet is very good with some minor yellowing to a few of the pages and a worn portion along the top of the back-cover.
