(Disney, 1952) An incredibly rare first draft screenplay of Walt Disney's "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea" by writer John Tucker Battle. This script comes from the collection of Harper Goff, who famously worked on conceptual artwork for the film including designs for the Nautilus. While Earl Fenton was writing the script for "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea" that would eventually become the basis for the final film, Walt Disney separately instructed Battle to write his own version. This very early first draft, dated February 19, 1952, contains 295 typed pages which offer a wealth of information and content for what could have become the final iconic film. A common practice in the 1950s was to use onionskin paper along with carbon paper to type duplicates from a typewriter. This screenplay features thin onionskin paper and is held in place with brass brads and has an outer blue-green cover with a Walt Disney Productions label. Measuring 11.25"x9.25", the screenplay is in fair condition with wear to the cover from use, including some yellowing and creasing around the edges of the cover, and some creasing to a few of the inner pages. This is an incredibly rare artifact in the history of this iconic film.
