(Hammeras, 1928) A Douglas Fairbanks signed honorable mention certificate from the very first Academy Awards. The certificate recognizes Ralph Hammeras' nomination for "The Life of Helen of Troy” in the category of Engineering Effects, which was only given in the first, 1928 Awards ceremony. While most records - and even The Academy's website - list Hammeras' nomination with no film attached, this certificate states he was nominated for "The Secret Life of Helen of Troy." The certificate is signed by movie star and president Douglas Fairbanks and secretary Frank Woods. Included in the lot is a guests of honor torn-off page with Hammeras' name circled in red. Measuring 9.5" x 11.5", the certificate displays in good condition with heavy discoloration from water contact, spotting, tape, edge tears, and wear.
