(Hammeras, 1948-49) A collection of paper souvenirs related to visual effects artist Ralph Hammeras' 1949 Academy Award nomination for "Deep Waters." Included are the official nomination letter from The Academy, a program from the awards ceremony, and a signed letter from studio head Darryl Zanuck congratulating him on his achievement and wishing "best of luck to you in the finals." Zanuck's letter is adhered to a photo of one of Hammeras' glass matte paintings used in the film. Adhered to the front of the program is a clipping mentioning the "Deep Waters" nomination, with Hammeras' name underlined in red. Ranging in size from the 7.25" x 10.5" letter to the 9" x 12" program adhered to 11" x 15.5" scrapbook paper, the pieces of Hollywood history are in good condition with folds from mailing, wear, edge tears, tape, paper loss, water contact on the program, and discoloration from age.
