(Walt Disney World, 1965-70) A unique archive of correspondence relating to the Walt Disney Company's acquisition of Florida land to be used in the creation of Walt Disney World. In 1964, real estate agents began making anonymous Florida land offers on behalf of the Walt Disney Company, before the public knew of Walt's intentions to build his next Park in Florida. As a result, the Company was able to purchase land for as low as $100 an acre, and by the end of 1965, when Walt's plans were known, the surrounding land parcel market value commanded a premium. This archive of correspondence (spanning December of 1965 to November of 1970) relates to one such family who owned 10 acres of central Orange County land. The majority of the (54) documents include hand-written communication between family members over land receipt profits, with letters pertaining to land evaluation, potential land bartering, a few communications with Walt Disney Productions, and three small site plans. Many retain their original mailing envelope and are in good condition, with minor wear and discoloration from age. The majority of the documents measure 11.5"x10" and are in good used condition with minor wear.
