(Disneyland, c.1957-62) An extremely rare original painting created by Imagineer Bruce Bushman for Disneyland's "Pirates of the Caribbean" attraction. During the early stages of the attraction's development, "Pirates of the Caribbean" was planned to be a walkthrough "wax museum" style of attraction featuring scenes of famous historical pirates. After the success of "It's a Small World" and the boat-ride style of attraction at the 1964-65 New York World's Fair, "Pirates of the Caribbean" was adapted with audio-animatronics into the dark-ride we know it as today. This original painting by Bruce Bushman depicts one of these proposed walkthrough scenes. The same clean-shaven pirate depicted here is also prominently seen in Bushman's other famous concept for the pirate walkthrough titled "Rogues' Gallery". This painting is accomplished in acrylic on art board, and comes in its original frame, as displayed by Bushman. The painting comes from Bushman's estate, and his signature is seen in the top-right corner. The painting has an image size of 22.75"x34.75" within the 31.25"x43.25" frame. The condition is poor to fair, with some water-damage to the right-side, moderate edge-wear throughout. The left corners have creasing and worn portions, and the nails used to secure the painting within the frame have caused indented areas on the artist's board. Created in a very unique time in the history of the iconic attraction, this original painting represents the themes and imagery found in Walt's early vision of "Pirates of the Caribbean".
