(Disney, 1939) A stunning conceptual painting of a snowy London street created for Peter Pan by artist David Hall. When Walt began pre-production on Peter Pan during the late 1930s, he called upon Hall, a well-known Hollywood concept artist, who had already been working with Disney on an idea for an "Alice in Wonderland" feature length film. Disney was attracted to Hall's old-world European style of painting and felt it was perfect for Peter Pan. Hall created a series of incredible paintings visualizing the story, however, the raging war in Europe and a strike at the Studio caused a halt on the project until the 1950s, when Disney ultimately went in a different direction for the film's styling and concept. Hall's artwork was highly valued by other artists at the Studio and this piece was saved by director Jack Handley, who was working on Fantasia at the same time Hall was working on Peter Pan. Measuring 12.5"x16.25", the graphite, watercolor, and gouache vignette on artist's board is in very good condition, signed by the artist within the border, with slight wear to the edges of the paper.
