(Disneyland 1958) During the 1950s and 1960s, it was not uncommon to find Walt Disney walking through his park. It was well-known that Walt loved Disneyland, and loved seeing his guests enjoy the fruits of his labor. Such was the occasion on July 19, 1958, for twin 8 year old sisters Dana and Denise Hansen. The sisters had just disembarked from the Mark Twain, after being chosen to pilot the paddle wheeler around the Rivers of America. As they stepped off the dock, with their official Mark Twain pilot certificates in hand, they spotted a familiar figure standing off to the side of the dock, enjoying the view of the park. It was Walt Disney himself. Without a moment’s hesitation, the two sisters approached the most famous man in America and were greeted with a warm smile and embrace. Walt Disney loved to welcome his guests, and was always ready with a blue ball point pen to sign autographs. Today was no exception. Walt greeted the girls, commented on their matching straw hats, and asked if they were enjoying the park. With only their pilot certificates in hand, the girls offered them to Walt for his autograph and he happily obliged. It happened in an instant, but it was a moment they would never forget. Now, 60 years later, those matching signed certificates, as well as the matching hats they wore that day, are going to pass from one generation of Disney fans to a newer generation. These two certificates, one filled out for each of the girls, contain a beautiful Walt Disney original signature in the lower-left corner in blue ink. Both certificates measure approximately 7"x8.5" and come in small plastic frames, as displayed by the sisters. The original certificates, as well as the hats the girls were wearing, have minor wear from use and age.
