(WED, c.1960s-90s) Following the introduction of Audio-Animatronics at the 1964-65 New York World's Fair, Walt Disney planned for the large-scale use of Audio-Animatronics in many future attractions. As a result, WED Imagineering's MAPO division developed the casting system to take a "kit of parts" approach to producing Audio-Animatronic human figures, where individual parts could be swapped in or out to achieve a variety of functions and movements. This pair of authentic, MAPO-built Audio-Animatronic mechanical components from the WDI casting system includes the A-1 shoulder component, and the A-6 pelvis component. The A-6 pelvis component is of particular interest, as it was distinctly designed to enable figures to sway, bend, and rise from a sitting position. Such a striking display of mechanical technology would have amazed the crowds who first gazed upon Mr. Lincoln when he debuted for a few "great moments" at the 1964 New York World's Fair. The A-6 pelvis component is a unique and pivotal aspect of one of the most important Audio-Animatronic movements of Disney Parks history. Additionally, the A-1 series of components have been pivotal in the creation of some of the most iconic attractions of the Disney Parks spanning from the 1960s to the 1990s, including Pirates of the Caribbean, the Haunted Mansion, and many other attractions at the Disney Parks around the globe. Composed of steel, the mechanical components measure 4.5" and 10.5" long. The condition is very good, with very minor surface wear from handling and age.
