(Disney, 1928) An original production drawing by Disney Legend Ub Iwerks of Mickey and Minnie from Plane Crazy, the first Mickey Mouse Cartoon. Plane Crazy was produced as a silent film and given an audience test screening on May 15th, 1928. At the time, it failed to pick up a distributor and was shelved. Later that year, the ground-breaking sound cartoon Steamboat Willie was released and became an enormous success. Sound was then added to Plane Crazy and the short was released on March 17th, 1929 to eager audiences. The drawing features Mickey and Minnie flying in a plane and has the sequence number "209" in the lower right-hand corner. Accomplished in graphite on 9.5"x12" pegged animation paper, the artwork has an image size of 2.5"x2.25". The drawing has been professionally mounted on 12.25"x15.5" archival linen. The condition is very fine with expected yellowing from age.
