(Walt Disney World, c.1970s) An original hand-painted canvas stretching portrait from the Haunted Mansion at the Magic Kingdom. Designed by Imagineer Marc Davis, the stretching portraits are some of the most well-known and popular aspects of the attraction. Walt Disney and Davis first introduced the idea of the stretching portraits on the Tencennial episode of the Disneyland television show, over 4 years before the attraction would open in 1969. Featuring the woman sitting on the tombstone of her late husband, George, this original prop is a wonderful artifact of Haunted Mansion history. Only the earliest stretching portraits were hand-painted, while more modern ones are printed. This incredible Haunted Mansion prop measures an astonishing 144"x48", and is in good condition overall with a few minor scratches and marks from the portrait's use and removal. There are a few hand-written notes in the margins of the canvas and on the reverse from the creation, installation, and removal of this prop. This would be a phenomenal focal point of the collection of any Haunted Mansion of Disney Parks fan. Special shipping arrangements may apply. Please inquire for details and estimates.
