(Disneyland, 1962) An exceptionally rare original painting depicting a stylized map of Disneyland and its iconic attractions. This map was used in a 2-page spread within the popular 1962 park guidebook "Walt Disney's Guide to Disneyland." Countless guests would have used this exact map as they navigated the park during the height of Walt's era. The map artwork offers a wonderful aerial view of the park and the attractions available in 1962. For this year's guidebook, certain changes to the map had to be made based on the changes that were occurring at the park. In Tomorrowland, the iconic TWA Moonliner was changed from its familiar white and red to blue and purple tones, due to the end of Disney and TWA's partnership in 1961. In Adventureland, the elephant bathing pool can be seen, which was added to the Jungle Cruise in 1962, and the Swiss Family Robinson Treehouse also made its debut that same year. Additionally, rare attractions including the Flying Saucers, Pack Mules, and the Motor Boat Cruise are depicted, as well as park classics including the Disneyland Railroad, Autopia, Sleeping Beauty Castle, the Matterhorn, and many others. Any original artwork from this era is very scarce, with artwork such as this that is so well-known and was so prominently used being exceptionally rare. The map painting is accomplished in acrylic on art board and measures 16.75"x30". The condition is very good with some edge wear and handling wear from use. The artwork comes framed with a copy of the 1962 guidebook in which the artwork is used.
