(Disneyland, 1954) An extraordinary one-of-a-kind hand-drawn map of Main Street created in 1954 during the construction of Disneyland. Prior to the opening of the park, American Motors Corporation was expected to be a Main Street sponsor, although they would ultimately sponsor the Circarama Theater in Tomorrowland. This hand-drawn map was created for a promotional item to be offered at AMC's Main Street location. Created in pencil on vellum, the map features a beautiful rendition of the park, as well as a close-up of the Main Street shops and a legend explaining what locations were planned for Main Street at the time. Several fascinating Main Street locations are titled "Nautilus," "Giant Squid," "Cartoon Studio," "Lilliputians," "Barber," and several others that would change by the park's opening day. The map was created by Fred Voges's design team, and includes a photostat blueprint that was provided to Voges by Disney, as well as a second photostat that shows how the original drawing would look when surrounded by American Motors logos and information. The hand-drawn map measures 12.5"x11" and is in good condition overall with some yellowing and spots of discoloration from use, as well as a few small creases and edge wear. The two photostat maps range slightly in size but measure approximately 16"x14".
