(Worlds Fair, 1964) John C. Wenrich was commissioned by the 1964-65 New York World’s Fair corporation to create a series of official renderings of the fair for promotional purposes. He was one of the key artistic figures of the previous New York World’s Fair in 1939 and created many of its key conceptual images. In 1964, his most famous, a view of the Unisphere with the “Rocket Thrower”” sculpture in the foreground (entitled, Plaza of the Astronauts) was one of the key images used before the fair opened to the public. This stunning painting features the iconic Unispere theme symbol with the Swiss Sky Ride as its main feature. The image was used on postcards, calendars and even school textbook covers! Most of the Wenrich promotional art is in the possession of the Queens Museum. Here’s a rare opportunity to acquire historic Fair art by one of the key figures in its visualization. Artwork measures 23.5 x 34.5 in. Framed size is 32.5 x 42.5 in.
