(Disneyland, 1956) Original shirt, skirt and badge from Talent Round-Up Days on the Mickey Mouse Club TV series. The Mickey Mouse Club and Disneyland may not be the most obvious connection, but both relied on each other in the early days of the park. Walt Disney’s TV show “Disneyland” was successful on ABC, but with expenses mounting, Disney needed another TV show to bring in much needed revenue as well as help promote his theme park. While working on the park, Disney, with the help of Bill Walsh, developed the format for the Mickey Mouse Club. After open auditions and rehearsals, the “Mousekteers” made their debut appearance at Disneyland’s opening day parade on July 17th, 1955. Once the first season filming wrapped up, the Mouseketeers were back at Disneyland performing in the Mickey Mouse Club Circus and for the next several years, made regular appearances at the park. This western costume consists of a shirt, skirt, and prop deputy badge that belonged to and was worn by Mouseketeer Darlene Gillespie during the Talent Round-Up Days segments of the series. An incredibly rare piece of memorabilia from the early days of Disney TV and history of the park. In very good condition. The shirt has some small stains on the front.
