(Mary Pickford / Abraham Lincoln, 1830s-1930s) A piece of wood labeled as having been cut by Abe Lincoln, from the estate of actress Mary Pickford. In 1830, Thomas Lincoln brought his family, including 21-year- old Abraham, to Macon County Illinois, to live near his cousin Dennis F. Hanks. Dennis and his son John helped Thomas and Abraham build a 16'x16' log cabin. It is a matter of record that the Hanks family sold pieces of wood from that cabin during Abraham's 1860 Presidential campaign. Samples of this wood viewable online appear of the same cut and character as this piece. This piece of wood was found in the estate of actress Mary Pickford, with the"Wood Cut By Abe Lincoln" label and tape displayed here attached. While we cannot confirm this wood's origin, it does appear in all aspects to match the artifacts known as Lincoln cut wood, and certainly to have been accepted by Mary Pickford as such. Measuring 2"x1.5"x1", the wood appears in very good condition, expertly displayed within a 20.75"x24.75" framed piece alongside the label, images of Pickford and Lincoln, and a reproduction of a letter written by Lincoln.
