(Disneyland, 2005) A blue denim shirt commemorating the 2005 Marie E. Disneyland Steam Up event honoring animator and Disney legend Ollie Johnston. One of Walt Disney’s nine old men, Ollie Johnston was lifelong steam train enthusiast. His 1:12 scale miniature La Canada Valley Railroad was the inspiration for Walt Disney’s own Carolwood Pacific Railroad. In 1949, Johnston refurbished a full-size locomotive, which he named the Marie E. Later, that steam engine was purchased by Disney and Pixar executive John Lasseter. On the morning of May 10, 2005, Ollie Johnston was invited by Lasseter to Disneyland to participate in a ceremony celebrating Disneyland’s 50th Anniversary. Unbeknownst to Johnston, Lasseter had arranged for the Marie E. to be brought to the park and installed on the Disneyland Railroad track. The Marie E. Disneyland Steam-Up paid tribute to Johnston’s enormous contributions and decades of service to Disney, and he was given the chance to drive the locomotive that he restored by hand around the park, which was the first time before or since any outside equipment was allowed to run on Disneyland’s rails. Attendees to the exclusive event were given shirts like these. A DVD of the proceedings is also included. The shirt is in very fine as-new condition.
