(Disneyland, 1970s-80s) In the mid 1970s, Imagineer John Stone built a model of Disneyland's New Orleans Square as part of a portfolio of work he was presenting to WED. The model was so accurate and detailed that in the 1980s when a redesign of the "Pirates of Caribbean" facade within New Orleans Square was proposed, WED used Stone's model as their starting point. A new queue area and bridge for the "Pirates of Caribbean" attraction was designed using this model, as well as improvements in traffic flow throughout the area. This model is constructed of foam-core, paper, chipboard, and wood, and is completely hand-painted in acrylic paint and micron pen. The highly detailed railings, windows, and storefronts, are all hand-built by Stone. Details include a beautifully rendered "Court of Angels" and the entire "French Quarter". A "carpet" of felt represents traffic flow areas, while seating areas for restaurants and fenced areas are left blank. Upon the completion of projects, models like these are usually destroyed, or taken apart and reused for other projects. Stone was so proud of this model and the work he had done in New Orleans Square, that he brought the model home, where it has remained with his family until now. The entire model measures 48"x68". In very good condition overall. Special shipping arrangements will apply.
