(Hershey, 1986) An original concept painting for the chocolate factory tour at Hershey Chocolate World by artist Eddie Martinez. Hershey opened Hershey Chocolate World in 1973 to direct tourist traffic away from their chocolate plant, which by that time was receiving visitors far in excess of their capacity as a functioning factory. In the mid-1980s, the company spent millions of dollars updating the chocolate-making tour ride at Chocolate World. This is concept art for that update. The anthropomorphic Hershey Kiss character seen here was replaced by a robot named CP-1 in the ride as it was built. Accomplished in gouache on illustration board, the artwork is signed and dated at lower right, "E Martinez '86." The image size is 18.5"x28.5" on a 20"x30" board with an attached protective paper overleaf. The artwork is in very good condition, with some minor corner bumping and border wear not affecting the image.
