(c.1950s) An extremely rare banjo head used by Harper Goff during his time playing in the Firehouse Five Plus Two. Goff collected many signatures on the head from notable musicians and actors with whom the band performed. Signatures include Bing Crosby, Louis Armstrong (who signed as "Satchmo"), Benny Goodman, Hoagy Carmichael, the Andrews Sisters, Robert Taylor, Van Johnson, Ed Wynn, Ginger Rogers, Mack Sennett, Joseph Cotten, Harry Crocker, Greer Garson, Sonja Henie, and Vera-Ellen. This banjo head represents an incredible archive of entertainment history and the personal career of Harper Goff. The 11" diameter banjo head is stamped on the back as a Joe B. Rogers Jr. veal calf skin banjo head, and while used by Goff in the 1950s, this head is believed to have been created in the 1930s. The head comes with a framed photo of Goff using the signed banjo head. Both the head and the photo come from Goff's estate. The head is in good condition with wear from use, including a long crack along the rim and some discoloration and fading to a few of the signatures.
