(Walt Disney World, 1971) An original invitation for Walt Disney World's three-day grand opening ceremony and dedication on October 23, 24, and 25 of 1971. The invitation comes from the collection of White House advance man Jon A. Foust. President Richard Nixon originally considered attending the event, and when he ultimately opted out, Foust went in his stead as a representative from the administration. No expense was spared for these elegant invitations. The deckled edge cover is embossed with an image of both Cinderella Castle and the Contemporary Resort and opens to reveal a vellum overlay with embossed Walt Disney World logo in gold. The (4) interior pages break down the events of each day and the booklet features an integral silk cord bookmark. The invitation is accompanied by its original transmittal envelope addressed to Foust at the White House, an RSVP card with addressed envelope, and the business card of an event coordinator. Also included is a 3-page typed letter on Walt Disney World Co. letterhead stationery from an event coordinator detailing Foust's travel arrangements and accommodations, as well as (21) carbon copies of thank you letters written by Foust to various Disney emissaries following the festivities. The invitation measures 6.25"x6.25" and is in very good condition, with only minor handling wear. The correspondence ranges in size from 10.5"x8" to 11"x8". It is generally in very good condition exhibiting some oxidized paperclip stains and handling wear.
