(WDI, 1998) A commemorative diorama presented to Walt Disney Imagineering staff that organized and executed the demolition of Anaheim's Grand Hotel on March 22, 1998. Three staggered photo cut-outs in custom acrylic frames portray the stages of the hotel implosion. The frames are mounted to a rectangular black acrylic slab, which features an engraved metal plaque featuring the WDI Infrastructure Team logo and the inscription, "WDI/California Hotel Implosion Team March 22, 1998". Constructed in the futuristic mod style of the 1960s, the Grand Hotel featured a marble bar, a theater, and a gilded ballroom. The Walt Disney Company purchased the property in 1996, and organized the demolition to build a parking lot, making up for the spaces lost with the construction of California Adventure. Measuring 3.25"x12" and 3" deep, the piece is in fine condition with only light surface wear.
