(Disney, 1931) An extremely rare original production background from the 1931 Silly Symphony, Egyptian Melodies. The short was the 21st entry in the Silly Symphonies series and featured the music of Frank Churchill. This is the master background shown on screen for approximately 35 seconds at the beginning of the short when the spider enters the tomb. The door is a separately trimmed and applied layer, as multiple door layers were used over the background to animate it opening. The untrimmed background is accomplished in gouache and ink on two-hole 9.5"x12" art paper. Notes along the bottom read "Rudy" (possibly Rudy Zamora, an animator on this short), "Double Exposure See Lee," "Sc. # 2" (scene 2), and S.S. # 21 (Silly Symphony #21). Original production backgrounds from so early in the studio's history are exceptionally rare. The condition is very fine with minor handling wear.
