(Disneyland, 1957) The original menu sign for Don DeFore's Silver Banjo Barbecue in Frontierland. From 1957 to 1962, this banjo-shaped sign hung at the popular restaurant and listed the menu options available. Original artifacts from this short-lived early Frontierland location are some of the most difficult to come by. This one-of-a-kind original sign features both screen-printed and hand-painted lettering, as well as a hand-painted wooden background and frame. Following the closure of the restaurant, DeFore kept this sign and displayed it for many years in his home. This sign comes from the collection of Disneyland historian and author of "Growing Up in Disneyland," Ron DeFore, Don DeFore's son. Measuring approximately 44"x29" and 4.5" deep, the sign is in fair condition with wear throughout from use and age, including some worn areas of the menu's lettering and some paint wear to the background. The neck of the banjo has been repainted and has a weathered look to match the background. The sign is hinged and can open from the frame, however the inner area is currently empty.
