(Disneyland, 1970s) What a beauty! An absolute testament to the pride, artistry and craftsmanship present in many of the original maintenance and creative divisions of Disneyland. This stunning piece of art was created by the Sign & Pictorial Department’s Supervisor and hung in the main office of said department within the park. Done in the centuries-old technique of reverse-painted, glue chip glass; a method of silk-screening paint and frisket to glass and following up with acid etching, sand blasting, chemical glue-chipping the surface and finally gilding with silver and gold leaf. This technique was passed down from the earliest artisans hired at Disneyland in 1954 to the apprentices working under them. Some original examples can still be found within Main Street, USA and subtle parts of New Orleans Square such as the Club 33 address sign. This is a breath-taking reminder of the workmanship and pride held by this valued division of Walt’s theme park. The sign itself measures 27.5 x 16.5 in. and 39 x 25.25 in. in its original frame.
