(Disneyland, 1974) An incredibly rare press release document from both Walt Disney Productions and the Wrather Corporation relating to the purchase of the Disneyland Hotel. During the construction of Disneyland, Walt knew that for his park to become a successful vacation destination, he would need to provide a comfortable lodging experience for guests in an otherwise fairly remote area of California. With his funds tied up in the construction of the park, Disney turned to Jack Wrather and Wrather Corporation who would build, manage, and own the only Hotel on Disney property. The Disneyland Hotel opened its doors on October 5, 1955, less than 3 months after the opening of the park. Disney would eventually buy the Wrather Corporation and with it, the Disneyland Hotel. However, this document refers to a much earlier attempt by Disney to purchase the Disneyland Hotel from Wrather Corporation between 1973 and 1974. This agreement would have provided a purchase price of 189,366 shares of the common stock of DIsney, and $1,250,000 in cash. While the deal would ultimately be unsuccessful, this incredible 2-page document shows Disney's early desire to own and operate the Disneyland Hotel themselves. Measuring 11"x8.5", the document is in very good condition with some edge-wear from use.
