(Disneyland, 1970s) Opening in 1963, the Enchanted Tiki Room was the first attraction to use Audio-Animatronic characters in the park. Conceived as a restaurant with birds that serenaded the patrons, the attraction was originally sponsored by United Airlines, and later by Hawaii’s Dole Food Company. The presentation features a cast of over 150 talking and singing birds, tikis, and flowers. The innovative and advanced technology for the time required a massive computer system, which required the attraction to be air-conditioned; a first at Disneyland. Purchased from an Imagineer that worked on the attraction, this animatronic female bird was a member of the “chorus” and still has her pneumatic cables and control mechanisms inside. Constructed of Fiberglass, paint, feathers, and wool, the 27 in. bird (from bottom feather to top) has been mounted in a custom lit display case measuring 64 x 17 x 17 in. An extremely rare and desirable item. Special shipping arrangements will apply.
