(Walt Disney Studios, 1960) As early as the late 1930s, the studio began developing a film based on the play "Chanticleer". The project was shelved and revived several times. Finally in the late 1950s, it was slated to follow "101 Dalmatians", and in 1960 a team led by Mark Davis and Ken Anderson spent months preparing a story and preliminary art. Walt Peregoy, the lead background painter on "Sleeping Beauty" and groundbreaking color stylist on "101 Dalmatians", put together this amazing collection of (28) original concept paintings for the "Chanticleer" project before Walt decided to shelve the project and to focus on other endeavors. Accomplished in ink and watercolor on 10"x17" paper, each painting has been applied to a larger 14.5"x23" thick paper and protected with a cel overlay. All (28) paintings are housed in a case made by Peregoy and decorated by him. An incredible archive of Peregoy's work and of one of the more well-known unproduced projects.
