(Disney, 1950) This is the original hand-drawn artwork for the trestle bridge at Walt Disney's backyard Carolwood Pacific Railroad. One of the popular key features of Walt's railroad was the stunning trestle bridge depicted in this original artwork. Designed by engineer James E. Lill, and identified as "Timber Trestle," the artwork depicts the full bridge, complete with notes that "all wood shall be clear heart redwood" and "all bolts and nails shall be galvanized," among others. The drawing is accomplished in pencil on this art paper, and is signed by Lill. The project information in the bottom right identifies the work was for Walt Disney and is dated 9-7-50, although an earlier erased date of 8-28-50 can still be seen. Measuring 19.5"x33.5" within the mat opening of the 42"x44.25" frame, the artwork is in very good condition with handling creases and minor discoloration consistent with its use and age. Original artwork from such an important feature of Walt Disney's life is near-impossible to find, with this particular artwork beautifully representing a key aspect of Walt's beloved Carolwood Pacific Railroad.
