(Ideal, 1966) The most sought after of all 1960s Batman collectibles, this is an exceedingly rare Official Batman Utility Belt manufactured by Ideal. The "complete set of crime fighting equipment" includes a yellow plastic utility belt adjustable up to 32" with a Bat-Rocket Grenade, Bat-Rope with grapple claw, a Bat-Storage Pouch, a Bat-A-Rang, a Dummy Transmitter, a Bat-Signal Flash (battery operated mini flashlight), Batt-Cuffs, a Bat-Gun Launcher, and a Batman Message Sender (dart for the gun). The notoriously fragile metallic foil Batman Utility Belt decal on the belt buckle is present and complete. All items are assembled in the original cardboard box packaging. The box has been encapsulated by in an acrylic display case by Collector Archive Services, which measures 17"x28" and 3.25" deep. The case retains a CAS grade label, rating the set an 80+ with a "real grade" of 83.1. The packaging retains a period "Milt's" retail price tag at upper right and exhibits a 2" strip of surface loss to the right side. The reverse exhibits some browning from age, a scuff, and some tape staining. With the debut of the Batman TV series in 1966, Batmania was sweeping the nation. Ideal toys capitalized on the Caped Crusader's newfound popularity with a line of classic items, some of which, like the Official Batman & Justice League of America playset, are among the most desirable pieces in toy collecting. This Official Batman Utility Belt, however, is the absolute pinnacle, being a Holy Grail for Batfans, toy collectors, and 1960s pop culture fanatics. Very few complete utility belt sets with the original packaging exist, and virtually none as well-preserved as this archivally conserved and graded example. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to own a premier piece of American superhero pop-culture.
