(Acclaim, 1992) An original hand-painted cel over a hand-painted background used as the final box art for the Nintendo Game Boy exclusive the Simpsons-themed video game, Bart vs the Juggernauts. Designed by artist Bill Morrison, this image was additionally used as the art for the game's cartridge label and instruction manual. The hand-painted cel was created from Morrison's original line work, and the background was painted by Morrison himself. Also included is a hand-painted cel recreation of the game's titles accomplished by a Disney animator. This was the only final cover art for a Simpsons game created using cels, as airbrush was the favored medium in the days before digital artwork, and is one of only two final covers for a Simpsons video game ever offered for public sale. The cel, depicting Bart and a pair of American Gladiators-inspired "Juggernauts" wielding pugil sticks above a pool of radioactive sludge, measures 13"x10.25" over its 13.5"x10.25" airbrushed purple gradient background. The cel is in fine condition with minimal production wear. The background is in fair condition, exhibiting spot surface loss throughout from long-term contact with the back painting on the cel. When the two are displayed together, as intended, this issue is not visible. This is an incredibly rare opportunity to own a unique piece of both The Simpsons and gaming history.
