(1920-21) A collection of cards autographed by all the Justices of Taft's Supreme Court in 1921, plus a previous Chief Justice. Included in the set are William Howard Taft, the former President turned Chief Justice on July 11, 1921, and associate Justices Oliver Wendell Holmes, Mahlon Pitney, William R. Day, John Hessin Clarke, Willis Van Devanter, J. C. McReynolds, Louis D. Brandeis, and Joseph McKenna. Also included is Chief Justice Edward D. White, who preceded Taft as Chief Justice from 1910 until 1921. When Helen Hull Monnette was born in 1920, her father Orra Eugene Monnette wanted to do something special for his young daughter. Orra sent cards bearing Helen’s name to people of note from that time period, asking them to sign the cards and send them back in the provided return envelope. These ten signatures collectively represent over 200 years of service in the Supreme Court. Each measuring 2.25" x 3.75", the cards display in very good condition, with paper loss to the backs from previously being glued.
