(Disney/Touchstone Pictures, 1988) A very rare publicity master cel from “Who Framed Roger Rabbit?” Every major film released by the Studios in the 1980s and 1990s had a “key set” of from 80 to 200 or more images selected by the film’s publicist from on-set photography, to represent the film in the press. Animated films would have a similar selection of cel setups photographed. Due to the unique “hybrid” nature of Roger Rabbit, individual cels were created specifically for the key set, with a specially detailed animation image presented on a screen-matching full-color photo background. These cels have beautiful shading as seen on Roger’s arms and face here, which does not appear on production cels as lighting effects were added digitally. With a character image size of 9” x 8” on a 13.25” x 16.5” production cel and a 14” x 9.5” photo background, the piece is in very good condition with light wear from original use and age. This is truly a one-of-a-kind piece.
