(Disneyland, 1967) An original Bertha Mae keel boat sign from the Mike Fink Keel Boats attraction in Frontierland at Disneyland. The original Disneyland Bertha Mae and Gullywhumper Keel Boats, were the actual boats created for Walt Disney's live-action productions of "Davy Crockett's Keel Boat Race" and "Davy Crockett and the River Pirates." After production wrapped, the boats were moved to Disneyland in December of 1955, where they took guests on a free-floating tour of the Rivers of America. Around 1967, the "Bertha Mae" and "Gullywhumper" were replaced with slightly larger and more modern boats (three windows instead of two). These two boats would run uninterrupted on the Rivers of America for the next 27 years. In 1997, the "Gullywhumper" keel boat capsized, dumping its passengers into the River. In response, the "Bertha Mae" was removed from the park. This sign was removed from the Bertha Mae after it was retired from service. Measuring 97.25" long, 17.5" tall and 2.5" wide, the hand-painted, wooden sign is in very good condition, with cracks and stress to wood, and wear to paint from handling, exposure, and age. Special shipping arrangements will be required. Please inquire before bidding.
