(Disneyland, 1957) A stunning original concept painting by Eyvind Earle for the Sleeping Beauty Castle Walkthrough attraction at Disneyland. Walt Disney tasked WED Imagineering with finding a use for the empty upper level inside the Castle, and they delivered in spades. Sleeping Beauty Castle Walkthrough told the story of the film through a series of charming dioramas. The attraction opened in 1957, two years before the film arrived in theaters, with Earle painting the concepts for both the walk-thru and film at the same time. This tableau gives viewers a peek at Princess Aurora as she waits for true love’s kiss to break the spell. Accomplished in gouache on art board and signed by the artist in the bottom right corner, this 15” x 20” piece is in very good condition with light scratches and pin holes at the corners.
