(Fleischer, 1930s) An early original production drawing of Popeye from Fleischer Studios. Measuring 2.75” x 5” on trimmed 4.25” x 9.5” paper, the drawing is in very good condition with light wear from age. Fleischer Studios was a pioneering and influential animation studio founded 1929 by the Fleischer brothers Max and Dave. The studio was responsible for the creation of cartoon greats like Koko the Clown, Bimbo, Superman’s first animated appearance, and their biggest box office stars, Betty Boop and the animated version of Popeye the Sailor. Despite the studio’s eventual acquisition by its distributor, Paramount Pictures, and restructuring to the formation of Famous Studios, the characters they created continue to delight modern audiences to this day.
