(20th Century Fox, 1973) An incredible chimp makeup facial appliance from “Battle for the Planet of the Apes.” When the first “Planet of the Apes” film debuted in 1968, the pioneering effects by make-up artists John Chambers and Thomas Burman revolutionized science fiction cinema, allowing Oscar-winning actors Roddy McDowall and Kim Hunter to portray non-human characters with depth and emotion never before seen. Those techniques were refined throughout the original Planet of the Apes series. This facial appliance for a chimp child measures 6” x 5” high, preserved on a vacuform face with a custom 6.75” diameter x 10” high display. The appliance is in remarkably very good condition for its age, with very faint fraying and hairline cracking visible around the edges of this iconic piece.
