(Disney, 1949) A very rare concept sketch for "Lorenzo" by Disney Legend Joe Grant. This started development in 1949 when storyman Joe Grant saw his cat dive into a fight between two poodles and wondered what would happen if he lost his tail. The project was long-shelved but revived in the early 2000s, as Grant was once again working with Feature Animation. With Joe’s encouragement, Mike Gabriel wrote and directed the 2004 Disney animated short “Lorenzo” which finally brought this blue-furred protagonist to life. This sketch dates to Grant’s earliest development on the project. Accomplished in crayon and grease pencil, the sketch has an image size of 6.5” x 8.5” on 9” x 12” paper and is in very good condition, even with spots of discoloration to the paper from age that do not affect the image, and pin holes from original production use.
