(WED, c.1960s-90s) Following the introduction of Audio-Animatronics at the 1964-65 New York World's Fair, Disney planned for the large-scale use of Audio-Animatronics in many future attractions. As a result, WED Imagineering's MAPO division developed the casting system to take a "kit of parts" approach to producing their animatronic figures. This is an authentic, MAPO-built Series A-1 Audio-Animatronic frame from the Disney casting system. As it was designed so that the parts could be interchanged as necessary, some of the mechanics in this figure date to the 1960s, while others are more modern. The A-1 series of figures have been pivotal in the creation of some of the most iconic attractions, including the human characters in Pirates of the Caribbean, the Haunted Mansion, and many other attractions at the Disney Parks around the globe. Composed of steel and aluminum, the mechanical Audio-Animatronic figure is a museum-quality artifact of Disney Parks history, and a testament to the ingenuity and artistry of the Imagineers. Measuring approximately 105" tall, the figure is in very fine condition with some surface wear from use. Hands are not included, however the figure presents itself wonderfully.
